Visa-free entry to Vietnam
Citizens of some countries are allowed to enter and stay in Vietnam for a certain period of time without a visa. These are citizens of countries that have signed bilateral and unilateral visa exemption agreements with Vietnam.
In order to enter Vietnam on a visa-free basis, citizens of these countries must ensure:
– Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Vietnam; and
– Passport with at least 02 blank pages.

1. Bilateral visa exemption
Vietnam has signed visa exemption agreements and agreements with 91 countries (mainly Diplomatic passports, Official passports); in which 04 Agreements with Cameroon, Nammibia, Ethiopia and Panama have not yet come into force.
2. Visa exemption for flight crew members
Vietnam exempts visas for flight crew members of 18 countries and territories on the basis of the principle of reciprocity.
3. Unilateral visa exemption
Vietnam unilaterally exempts visas for citizens of 13 countries, namely Russia, Japan, Korea, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, UK, France, Germany, Spain, I- talia, Belarus and to ASEAN Secretariat officials.
Citizens of the above countries are exempted from visa when entering Vietnam with a stay period of not more than 15 days, if the following conditions are met:
+ Have a valid passport issued by a competent authority of the country of which the person is a citizen and the passport is valid for at least 06 months from the date of entry.
+ The time of entry must be at least 30 days from the previous visa-free exit time.
Note:
– 30-day visa exemption for foreigners entering coastal economic zones under the decision of the Government when all the following conditions are satisfied:
- have an international airport;
- have a separate space;
- have a defined geographical boundary, separate from the mainland;
- in line with the socio-economic development policy and without prejudice to Vietnam’s national defense, security, and social order and safety.
– Holders of the APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) with a valid passport are exempt from visa entry and stay in Vietnam for up to 60 days;
– Viet Kieu, foreigners who are spouses and children of Viet Kieu or Vietnamese citizens are exempted from visa for 5 years.
– It is possible to extend temporary stay under the visa exemption category if visitors wish to continue to stay for a longer time in Vietnam.
– Visa exemption includes visa exemption for entry, exit and transit.
– Visa-free stay is counted from the date of entry.
